Already we’re coming into the Autumn season for the New Year, and as 2021 swings into action we look forward to a successful year for all.
This month, we’re focused on autumn productivity and providing the right products to help farmers achieve better results this autumn season
This Autumn we are working around enhancing farm productivity. This time of the year brings increased risk of mastitis so it’s a good idea to be looking out for signs of mastitis with Shoof’s Mas- D-Tec electronic mastitis detector. Farmers should also be thinking about calf vaccinations, and for ultimate reliability and dose control we recommend the Simcro and Henke ranges.
MastitisTesting – Mas-D-Tech
Clinical cases of mastitis are disruptive to milking and costly.
When cases of mastitis are missed, the bulk milk SCC is increased, the infection can be spread toother cows and the cases are harder to cure when they are detected.
It is a good idea to prepare for mastitis before the season begins so detection and prevention canbe managed without affecting milk production.
Electronic Mastitis Detection
Shoof’s Mas-D-Tec mastitis test measures the levels of sodium and chloride in the milk, both of which are increased by bacterial infections. As levels rise, milk quality is lower and production will be reduced. It is very quick and easy to use the Mas-D-Tec. A small sample of quarter milk is simply squirted into the funnel top. Within two seconds the milk conductivity is analysed and indicated on the instrument’s graphic scale. The milk drains through the Mas-D-Tec as the readings are taken.
Simply continue to the next quarter and add more milk for a new reading. There is no need to wash the Mas-D-Tec between quarters and cows. Washing at the end of milking is all that is required. Mas-D-Tec is so fast to use that it is possible to test the whole herd during milking.
This is why it’s regarded the world’s most popular electronic mastitis detector.
Get Ahead On Autumn Vaccinations
Calf vaccinations are an important component of any animal health plan.
For best results for autumn-born calves, vets recommend vaccinations happen before calves are exposed to diseases and when your youngest animal is four weeks of age. Spring calves are also ready for their 6- month vaccines between the end of January – end of March.
It’s a good idea to review vaccination supplies now to ensure you have the right equipment available this autumn.
